Assisi
Medieval jewel of art and culture

Walking through the cobbled streets of this ancient medieval village, protected by the mighty medieval walls, you can breathe an atmosphere of peace and contemplation.

The historic centre, which winds around the central Piazza del Comune, is the beating heart of the city, where there are historical buildings such as the Temple of Minerva and the Torre del Popolo. From here, a short walk leads to the majestic Basilica di San Francesco, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the world, custodian of the saint’s remains and priceless works of art, including the frescoes by Giotto.

Our restaurant is located right along this historic street, halfway between the lively Piazza del Comune and the solemn Basilica of San Francesco, in a context that contains all the charm and serenity of Assisi. Here, in a cozy and authentic environment, you can enjoy the typical flavors of Umbrian cuisine, immersed in the timeless magic of one of the most evocative cities of Italy.

Assisi's alleyways

Walking through Assisi's alleys until you become lost is a way to enjoy the atmosphere. Let yourself be enchanted by their typical wonder, enhanced by the suggestive views that you can enjoy moving from one point to another in the city and return, even for a few hours, back in time and history.

The Temple of Minerva

It is located a few steps from the restaurant, in the Piazza del Comune. It was erected in 30 BC and probably dedicated to Hercules. It was transformed into the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in the 16th century and is one of the best preserved Roman temples in the ancient world.

Basilica of San Francesco

Continuing down Via Portica, along which is the restaurant, you arrive at the place that brings the image of Assisi in the world. The construction of the basilica of San Francesco began two years after the death of the saint, under the direction of Friar Elia, faithful friend of Francis. In the crypt rests the body of the Poverello of Assisi.

Rocca Maggiore

The Fortress that is central to Assisi, dating back to 1173-1174, was the home of Cristiano, Archbishop of Mainz, who occupied the city on behalf of Frederick Barbarossa. In 1198 it was destroyed by a popular uprising and rebuilt by Cardinal E. Albornoz in 1962.

The Sanctuary of Eremo delle Carceri

The Friars Minor of the Serafic Province of San Francesco d'Assisi are guarding one of the Franciscan shrines on Mount Subasio, a former Franciscan place located on Mount Subasio, 400 meters high, in the heart of a forest of secular oaks. The word prison does not mean "prison": it comes from the Latin "carcer", which means secluded place, solitary, therefore suitable for prayer life. Here came Francis, his companions and, after them, the friars for limited periods of prayer.

Mount Subasio

Mount Subasio's slopes and top are home to the park, which separates our city from the historic centers of Spello and Nocera Umbra while also connecting to Assisi. All in a natural setting made of slopes, trails and pastures to visit, admire and discover.
